DIY Mobile Animals

Inspiration:

My Version:
As I was browsing Pinterest {www.pinterest.com/makingforts} I found this mobile from Drops of Color on Etsy.com. I really love her entire etsy shop, she has all kinds of different animal mobiles in an assortment of color choices.

What you need:
-Multicolored felt
-Matching thread
-Sewing Needle
-Pins
-Scissors
-Liquid Stitch
-POLY-FIL Supreme 100% polyester fiberfill
-{8} black beads
-Black thin felt-tip marker/sharpie

What I did:

Directions:
1-To start off I saved the original picture of the mobile and opened it in Microsoft Paint, then I proceeded to cut out the individual parts of the mobile. I cut out the closest giraffe in the image and copied it onto Microsoft Word, then enlarged the image to the actual size. Then did the same with the cloud and stars.
2-Then I printed the Word document and cut out the {sort of} templates.
3-I counted how many parts I needed:
  • 8 giraffes
  • 24 spots
  • 4 tails
  • 8 stars
  • 4 pink cheeks
  • 2 moons
  • 1 cloud {I choose to do a moon rather than a cloud for the center because I thought it made more sense with a moon and stars}.
Then I pinned the templates to the felt and cut out the parts.
4-Once all the parts were cut out I used Liquid Stitch to glue on the spots, the giraffes horns together {I didn't want a seam showing there}, the moon's cheeks and the tails to both sides of each giraffes on the inside. Then I sewed on the black beads for eyes to each side of the giraffes.
5-I blanket stitched the giraffes and stars together then filled the inside of each with a small amount of fiberfill.
6-I took the felt-tip market and drew out a guideline for the eyes and smile onto each moon's face, then embroidered the outline. I glued the cloud to both the insides of the moon then glued the edges of the moons together, then finished the moon with a simple stitch around the edge.
To finish the whole mobile I'll be making my own mobile (rigging?), another DIY, painting it black and eventually hanging it above Asher's crib. To attach the felt animals I'm going to sew small silver jewelry clasp rings to each part and use clear plastic thread to suspend them.
